Magpie Creative Reuse Collective

We Are Collectors

Magpie is a new 501c3 non-profit creative reuse center in Kansas City.  Like all magpies, we are collectors. Our focus is collecting and reselling leftover and remnant material, and providing education and resources to encourage reuse. Everything we do is centered on using collective effort to keep things useful longer.

Magpie is a place to donate and buy reuse arts, crafts, and office supplies; a place to take community classes centered on skills and inspiration for reuse; and a place to volunteer to save treasures from the trash. We work to provide shared resources specifically for artists, makers and entrepreneurs of all ages.

Working to Provide

Material Reuse

Maximizing the usefulness of materials by mobilizing staff, volunteers and partners to collect, process and resell used or remnant items.

Education

Teaching skills and processes related to reuse, upcycling, downcycling, recycling and repairing to conserve resources, divert waste, and retain value of materials.

Innovation

Leading, collaborating, and inspiring creative approaches to the environmental problem of material waste by providing resources for artists, designers, and makers.

Creative Reuse

A Worldwide Movement

Creative Reuse Centers take leftover supplies, remnant material, and waste products that might otherwise end up in the landfill, and makes them available for reuse through resale. These centers can be found in many cities in the US, and around the world.

We love that the CRC model prioritizes repurposing supplies for artists and makers, and that it creates a market for hard to sell items that regular thrift stores may not take. Reuse Centers put the “creative” in “creative reuse” by providing inspiration, education and resources that help people transform old materials for new purposes.

The scale of the waste problem we face requires many hands and we are ready to join in.  Magpie Creative Reuse Collective is committed to being a leader in reuse and sustainability innovation in Kansas City, in partnership with the many other organizations that have taken on environmental conservation as their mission.

Why your donation matters:

Magpie Creative Reuse Collective was founded in the spring of 2024. We formed a board, incorporated as a non-profit, and were approved as a 501c3 with the IRS.

In October of 2025, we moved into a 5,000sf warehouse at 3331 Roanoke Rd. A bigger space means a bigger store, longer open hours, our own workshop space, and so much room for growth.

Magpie is taking flight, but we are still a new organization with a small staff. Donating Money helps us pay staff fairly, while also keeping prices accessible for the community. Donating Time helps us sort and stock the store with reuse items. Donating Stuff helps us fulfill our mission to keep things useful longer.

Reuse is a time and labor intensive choice, so let’s do it together. Join the collective effort.
