Magpie Creative Reuse Collective offers classes and events focused on inspiring reuse. We teach skills, and encourage creative thinking, to transform materials through reuse, upcycling, downcycling, recycling and repair.

Classes at Magpie
10/3 Sustainable Fabric Brooch
Fabric bits and special stitches become the softest brooches in this hands on workshop with artist Aimee Hagedorn. Guests will play in piles of colorful fabric scraps to design their own signature piece.

10/3 Mini Crochet Pumpkins
Let’s put those yarn scraps to good use!! Join us for a cozy crochet session making mini pumpkins.

10/4 Boro
Join Dan Miller from Sashiko Dan to learn the Japanese patching technique of Boro. Use sashiko stitching to layer and combine scrap fabric, turning tattered scraps into something usable.

10/9 Monster Books
Make your own monster book for scary stories or spooky stickers. Design a creature for the cover and fill the book with blank pages for whatever creative project you choose. Kids class!

10/11 Scrap Magic
Don’t throw your scraps away! In this beginner friendly sewing class, Karen from Sully’s Upcycled will teach you a two simple techniques to transform small to large scraps into one of a kind fabric yardage that you can use for your sewing projects.

10/11 Fall Applique Patches
Upcycled your wardrobe with applique patches. Instructor Maya Jones will show you how to take a seasonal design and turn it into a fabric patch.

10/15 Jimothy Patch Class
Let’s celebrate the Jimothy craze together by carving our very own Jimothy stamps that you can print on just about anything! Janelle will teach you how to draw and carve your own stamp that can be printed on fabric as well as paper for all the fun crafts.

10/18 Hitomezashi: “One Stitch” Sashiko
Hand sewing on a grid Learn the history and of traditional Japanese Hitomezashi, along with how a few simple rules of thread-through-fabric can lead to infinite ideas. Instruction by Dan Miller from Sashiko Dan.

10/22 Kaleidoscope Necklace
Join Whiskey & Bone to make one-of-a-kind beaded necklaces from used and leftover beads.
In this class you will make a single, 18” necklace. Tarrah will guide you on how to design your piece, and how to start and finish your necklace with different mixed metal findings.

10/24 Scraps to Scarabs
In this fabric scraps focused workshop, guests will experiment with 3D form and hand stitching to create their own one of a kind beetle brooch. There couldn’t be a more delightful way to transform materials that would otherwise be considered waste.

10/25 Witchy Wall Hanging
Create a special, spooky, witchy wall hanging! In this experimental class we will learn simple soldering skills using lead free solder and glass scraps. After assembling a few soldered parts, you will add more found objects, chain, charms, whatever you might like!

11/1 & 11/8 Ceramic Paint Palette
Create a unique paint palette out of recycled clay! This is a two day class. The first day will be spent creating your paint palette out of recycled and rehydrated clay. After the palettes are fired, we will come back and paint them with underglaze.

11/1 Mend Your Darn Socks!
Learn the joyful, meditative art of visible mending: a method of clothing repair that emphasizes the fix. In this class you will learn a variety of darning techniques to repair knit items such as socks and sweaters. All supplies are included to make a technique sampler. You can also bring your own mending projects to work on.

11/12 Crochet Snowflake
Join us for a Winter-Wonderland-themed crochet class! Melissa will show you two simple and beautiful snowflake patterns that you can use for your holiday decorations using scrap yarn.

11/19 Ribbon Awards
Find a reason to bestow honors and make your own dazzling award for the occasion. We will turn scrap ribbon into a DIY awards with added ruffles, tassel, or baubles for pizazz.

11/22 Ugly Holiday Sweater
Bling It On! Have a holiday sweater that needs a little (or a lot) something to get you into the holiday mood? This event is for you!
